THE BARTENDER’S BOOK
Bib & Tucker Double Char Bourbon is a unique small-batch whiskey crafted with a double-barrel aging process. After six years in new American oak barrels, it’s finished in heavily charred barrels for added depth. This bourbon delivers notes of toasted oak, vanilla, and subtle smoke, culminating in a smooth, rich finish.
TASTING NOTES
Taste is more than flavor. It is the full conversation between glass, nose, mouth, and memory. Here, we break each spirit into four parts:
AROMA
Vanilla, sweet corn, oak smoke, toasted sugar, sandalwood, warm spice, roasted wood, savory white smoke, and light caramel.
PALADAR
Rich and roasted; vanilla, corn sweetness, charred oak, smoky barrel spice, toasted caramel, baking spice, roasted nuts, and faint maple.
FINISH
Long and smoky-smooth; charred oak, vanilla, sweet corn, spice, and savory smoke linger.
TEXTURE
Medium-to-full body; smooth, rounded, and slightly oily, with more char, smoke, and roasted depth than the standard 6 Year.
STRAIGHT TALK
Strengths:
- More distinctive than the standard 6 Year.
- Good toasted-oak, caramel, spice, and light-smoke profile.
- Double-char process gives it a clear reason to exist.
- Still polished and approachable.
Weak Spots:
- Smoke and char can read dry or slightly bitter.
- More engineered than naturally deep.
- May still feel light for drinkers who want proof, age, or power.
Bottom Line:
A credible upgrade with a real flavor hook. Honest read: more interesting than the standard bottle, especially if you like toasted oak and gentle smoke, but still more polished and giftable than heavyweight.
THE MIX
| Category | Pairing Logic |
|---|---|
| Citrus | Orange peel, Meyer lemon, blood orange, lemon zest, and restrained grapefruit work best. Citrus keeps the smoke, oak, and sugar-maple sweetness from getting too heavy. |
| Fruit | Best with baked apple, pear, dark cherry, plum, fig, date, raisin, grilled peach, and orange marmalade. The fruit should feel baked, charred, or dried rather than fresh and bright. |
| Spice / Herbs | Cinnamon, clove, nutmeg, ginger, black pepper, allspice, tobacco leaf, cedar, and light mint fit naturally. The official notes already point to cinnamon, clove, oak, white smoke, and toasted cinnamon. |
| Sweet / Dessert | Strong with dulce de leche, caramel, vanilla, maple, brown sugar, pecan pie, bread pudding, cinnamon cake, apple pie, toasted marshmallow, milk chocolate, and smoked nuts. Keep dessert flavors roasted, charred, or maple-warm. |
| Savory / Food | Best flavor logic with barbecue chicken, roast pork, glazed ham, smoked turkey, brisket, duck, aged cheddar, Gouda, mushrooms, cornbread, sweet potatoes, pecans, walnuts, brown butter, and charred root vegetables. The brand itself frames the double-char process around savory smoky notes and open-flame cooking inspiration. |
| Jazz Chef Angle | The logic is Bib & Tucker in a smokehouse jacket: caramel, vanilla, toasted oak, sugar maple, white smoke, cinnamon, clove, and char. Compared with Classic Six, this is darker, smokier, more maple-toned, and more food-driven. |
A DISTILLER’S TALE
Bib & Tucker Double Char is Bib & Tucker’s already-dressed-up 6-year bourbon after it got sent back into the fire for a second round of barrel drama. The whiskey is first aged six years in Tennessee in new American white oak, then finished for at least five months in a second heavily charred and smoked new barrel; launch material listed it at 88 proof / 44% ABV. The lore is pure Bib & Tucker theater: Gilded Age branding, handsome flask bottle, Tennessee aging language, and now enough extra char to make the label smell like it owns a velvet smoking jacket. In plain terms: Bib & Tucker Double Char is bourbon in Sunday best after standing too close to the bonfire — polished, smoky, slightly theatrical, and fully prepared to say “double char” like it just invented fire.
