Absolut’s larger story begins in Sweden with Lars Olsson Smith and the 1879 launch of Absolut Rent Brännvin, or “Absolute Pure Vodka.” The modern brand is tied closely to Åhus, Sweden, where Absolut centers its production around local winter wheat and well water.
