Product Description

THE BARTENDER’S BOOK

Bulleit American Single Malt is a bright and accessible American single malt whiskey crafted from 100 % malted barley and aged in charred American white oak barrels. Bottled at 45 % ABV, this expression balances Bulleit’s signature light spice and toasted oak with fresh notes of red fruit and pear, leading into a silky finish of caramel, cocoa, and subtle cinnamon . Distilled on a copper column still with a doubler, similarly to their bourbon, but drawn to a slightly higher proof, it offers a more delicate, malt-centric profile that remains inviting to bourbon lovers . The bottle is crafted from post-consumer recycled glass, reflecting Bulleit’s commitment to sustainability . Designed as a gateway into the emerging American single malt category, it’s smooth, lightly fruity, and versatile, perfect neat, over ice, or in elegant whiskey cocktails.

TASTING NOTES

Taste is more than flavor. It is the full conversation between glass, nose, mouth, and memory. Here, we break each spirit into four parts:

AROMA

Vanilla, toasted oak, malted grain, pear, red apple, soft cherry, caramel, and light baking spice.

PALATE

Malted barley, pear, red fruit, vanilla, toasted oak, caramel, cocoa, gentle cinnamon, and a faint Bulleit-style spice note.

FINISH

Medium, smooth, lightly sweet, and oak-led, with lingering pear, caramel, cocoa, vanilla, dry malt, and soft spice.

TEXTURE

Medium-light, polished, and easygoing, with more malt softness than Bulleit Bourbon or Rye.

American Single Malt Bulleit delivers a clean, approachable malt-whiskey profile built around pear, red fruit, vanilla, toasted oak, caramel, cocoa, soft malt, and light spice. It is rounder and less aggressive than Bulleit Rye, less corn-sweet than Bulleit Bourbon, and more American-oak-driven than Scotch-like.

STRAIGHT TALK

American Single Malt Bulleit is a real category shift, not just another Bulleit label variation. The 100% malted barley base changes the conversation. The whiskey is softer, fruitier, and less spicy than Bulleit’s better-known bottles.

The limitation is drama. It is polished and accessible, but not especially wild. It does not have Scotch-style smoke, heavy sherry influence, or deep craft-malt eccentricity. It is better understood as a gateway American single malt: clean, friendly, lightly fruity, and oak-polished.

THE MIX

Malted Old Fashioned direction:
Orange peel, bitters, restrained sweetness, and the whiskey’s pear, vanilla, cocoa, and oak notes doing the slow work.

American Malt Highball direction:
Cold mineral fizz, lemon peel, and a light touch, so the fruit and malt do not get buried.

Rob Roy-adjacent direction:
Dark vermouth, bitters, and orange oil, with the whiskey’s caramel, cocoa, and red-fruit side taking the lead.

Whiskey Sour direction:
Lemon, measured sweetness, and the malted-barley softness underneath.

Culinary cocktail angle:
Think pear, red apple, orange peel, vanilla, cocoa, maple, cinnamon, black cherry, and toasted oak.

A DISTILLER’S TALE

Bulleit built its modern reputation on high-rye bourbon and 95% rye whiskey, so an American single malt is a genuine left turn. The brand swaps the rye-heavy house identity for 100% malted barley, while keeping a familiar Bulleit frame through oak, spice, and 90-proof structure.

The release also reflects the larger rise of American single malt whiskey: a category built from malted barley, made in the United States, and increasingly trying to define itself apart from bourbon, rye, and Scotch. Bulleit’s version is not the weird, experimental edge of the category. It is the polished big-brand entry point.

MY TAKE

American Single Malt Bulleit is coherent, polished, and easy to understand. Pear, red fruit, vanilla, caramel, cocoa, toasted oak, and soft malt all show up clearly. It is not thrilling, and it is not the deepest American single malt on the shelf, but it does its job well. This is Bulleit learning a new instrument, and it mostly stays in tune.
