Product Description

THE BARTENDER’S BOOK

Bombay Sapphire East opens with bright juniper and citrus, quickly joined by lifted lemongrass and warm black pepper, followed by coriander, angelica, and soft spice, then finishing dry and crisp with a lingering peppery snap and clean botanical clarity; distilled as a London Dry Gin using vapor infusion and enhanced with Thai lemongrass and Vietnamese black peppercorn, it presents a sharper, more assertive profile than standard Sapphire, with added spice tension and aromatic lift that remain tightly balanced.

TASTING NOTES

Taste is more than flavor. It is the full conversation between glass, nose, mouth, and memory. Here, we break each spirit into four parts:

AROMA

Lemongrass, lemon peel, juniper, coriander, black pepper, cubeb, light floral notes, almond, licorice, and soft spice. Public tasting notes often describe the lemongrass and peppercorn as noticeable but not overwhelming.

PALATE

Citrus peel, lemongrass, juniper, coriander, pepper, cassia, grains of paradise, almond, licorice, and dry herbal spice. Compared with standard Bombay Sapphire, East reads brighter, more citrus-spiced, and slightly more aromatic

FINISH

Dry, citrusy, lightly peppery, and clean, with lingering lemongrass, juniper, coriander, black pepper, and soft botanical warmth.

TEXTURE

Light to medium-bodied, crisp, clean, and moderately sharp, with a dry gin structure and a brighter botanical edge from the lemongrass and peppercorn.

Bombay Sapphire East is Bombay Sapphire with a more pronounced East Asian botanical accent: lemongrass, black pepper, citrus peel, juniper, coriander, cassia, cubeb, almond, and licorice. It is still clean and commercial, but brighter and spicier than the standard bottle.

STRAIGHT TALK

This is a flavored variation within a major commercial gin family, not a small-batch craft gin or rare collector bottle. Its strengths are clarity, brightness, citrus lift, pepper spice, and a recognizable Bombay Sapphire base. Its limitation is subtlety: the added lemongrass and peppercorn are present, but the gin remains polished and mainstream rather than aggressively botanical or experimental.

Availability Note:
Availability appears market-specific. Bombay Sapphire East still appears on some official international Bombay Sapphire sites and retailer listings, but it is not always present in every national product lineup. It may be easier to find through specialty retailers, travel retail, or non-U.S. markets.

THE MIX

Neutral flavor-neighborhood only: lemongrass, lemon peel, black pepper, juniper, coriander, cassia, cubeb, almond, licorice, and dry herbal spice.

Citrus:
Lemon peel, lime zest, grapefruit, mandarin, yuzu-style citrus.

Fruit:
Green apple, pear, white grape, melon.

Spice / Herbs:
Black pepper, coriander, cassia, cubeb, grains of paradise, lemongrass, angelica, orris.

Sweet / Dessert Notes:
Almond, licorice, citrus candy, lemon curd, light vanilla cream.

Savory / Food Pairings:
Cucumber, herbs, toasted sesame, mild curry spice, grilled fish, chicken, rice noodles, ginger-forward dishes.

Jazz Chef angle:
Bombay Sapphire East is the blue bottle with sharper percussion: lemongrass on top, black pepper underneath, citrus and juniper keeping the line clean.

A DISTILLER’S TALE

Bombay Sapphire built its identity around vapor-infused botanicals and a lighter, aromatic interpretation of London Dry gin. Bombay Sapphire East extends that profile by adding Thai lemongrass and Vietnamese black peppercorns to the standard botanical set. The result keeps the core Bombay style recognizable while shifting the emphasis toward citrus, spice, and a more aromatic “East” profile

MY TAKE

Public perception is generally positive among drinkers who like Bombay Sapphire but want a brighter, spicier version. Distiller lists a professional score of 88, while The Gin Is In rates it 4.5/5, with both sources emphasizing the lemongrass, peppercorn, and clean botanical structure.

The Jazz Chef take: this is not a radical reinvention of Bombay Sapphire. It is a sharper, brighter variation: citrus peel, lemongrass, pepper, juniper, coriander, and a clean commercial polish.
