THE BARTENDER’S BOOK
Bundaberg Campfire Bourbon Barrel Finished Rum is a limited‑edition expression from Australia’s Bundaberg Distilling Company, blending aged rum reserves with a finish in bourbon barrels. Bottled at 37% ABV, it pours a warm amber hue and offers a smooth, mellow profile featuring toasted caramel and vanilla on the palate, with a subtle campfire-style smokiness on the nose and finish . The character is enhanced by lingering oak, spice, and a cozy warmth reminiscent of sitting by an open fire—a finish that invites another sip . Enjoy it neat, over ice, or in campfire-inspired cocktails; there’s also a premixed variant (6% ABV) blending the rum with cola for an easy-drinking ready-to-go option.
TASTING NOTES
Taste is more than flavor. It is the full conversation between glass, nose, mouth, and memory. Here, we break each spirit into four parts:
AROMA
Toasted caramel, vanilla, brown sugar, light molasses, soft oak, and faint campfire char.
PALATE
Caramel, vanilla, mild bourbon-barrel oak, dark sugar, light spice, and a smooth Bundaberg rum base.
FINISH
Smooth, mellow, lightly sweet, and oak-led, with lingering vanilla, caramel, mild char, and warm spice.
TEXTURE
Medium-bodied, rounded, and soft, with more barrel polish than standard Bundaberg Original.
Bundaberg Campfire Rum delivers a warm, barrel-finished profile built around toasted caramel, vanilla, brown sugar, molasses, soft oak, and light char. It is sweeter and smoother than a dry aged rum, but the bourbon-barrel influence gives it enough wood and spice to keep the profile from feeling flat.
STRAIGHT TALK
Bundaberg Campfire Rum is not a deep, old, contemplative rum. It is a flavored-by-cask, easygoing Australian rum built around bourbon-barrel sweetness and campfire mood. The caramel and vanilla are obvious. The oak gives it a little grip. The smoke is more suggestion than bonfire. The honest read: it is a warmer, smoother, more approachable Bundy variant with a clear flavor idea.
THE MIX
For culinary-pairing context, Bundaberg Campfire Rum works with grilled pineapple, banana, caramel, vanilla, toasted coconut, pecan, brown sugar, cinnamon, clove, orange peel, coffee, dark chocolate, barbecue glaze, roasted pork, smoked salt, and charred citrus.
The Jazz Chef angle: this is Bundaberg by the fire pit, caramel, vanilla, oak, brown sugar, and a little smoke in the jacket.
A DISTILLER’S TALE
Bundaberg Rum comes from Queensland sugar country, where local molasses became the foundation for one of Australia’s best-known rum brands. Campfire Rum fits the modern Bundaberg pattern of limited, flavored, and barrel-finished expressions sold through the distillery and online shop. The producer describes this bottle as crafted from aged reserves blended with rum allowed to rest in bourbon barrels, with the bourbon barrels contributing the toasted caramel and vanilla profile.
MY TAKE
Bundaberg Campfire Rum is a solid character bottle. Caramel, vanilla, brown sugar, oak, and soft char give it a clear point of view. It is not especially refined, and it is not built for dry-rum purists. For a bourbon-barrel-finished Bundaberg expression, though, it has enough warmth, identity, and campfire charm to earn its place.
