Product Description
THE BARTENDER’S BOOK
Bold and ready-to-serve, Captain Morgan Long Island Iced Tea combines rum, vodka, whiskey, gin, and triple sec with natural flavors and a splash of cola. It delivers notes of citrus, caramel, and light spice with a balanced, slightly sweet finish. Bottled at 17% ABV, this premixed cocktail offers convenience without sacrificing character. Best served over ice with a wedge of lemon. Produced by Captain Morgan in the U.S.
TASTING NOTES
Taste is more than flavor. It is the full conversation between glass, nose, mouth, and memory. Here, we break each spirit into four parts:
AROMA
Lemon, cola spice, orange citrus, sugar, light rum, faint tea-like sweetness, and soft alcohol warmth.
PALATE
Sweet citrus, cola, orange, lemon, light caramel, mixed-spirit warmth, sugar, and mild bitter-citrus edge.
FINISH
Short to medium, sweet, citrus-led, and cola-like, with lingering lemon, orange, caramel, and mild alcohol heat.
TEXTURE
Medium-bodied, sweet, and bottled-cocktail smooth, with more punch-style weight than spirit structure.
Captain Morgan Long Island Iced Tea delivers a ready-to-drink profile built around lemon, orange, cola spice, caramel, sugar, light rum, and mixed-spirit warmth. It gives the broad outline of a Long Island iced tea, but it is simplified, sweeter, and less layered than a freshly built version.
STRAIGHT TALK
Captain Morgan Long Island Iced Tea is convenience first. It is not a serious spirits study, and it is not meant to show individual rum character. The product is about the familiar Long Island flavor map: citrus, cola, sweetness, and a blended alcohol impression. The limitation is obvious: bottled versions flatten the sharper citrus and spirit separation that define the classic drink. Judged as a ready-to-drink bottled cocktail, it is coherent. Judged as a serious cocktail, it is simplified.
THE MIX
For culinary-pairing context, Captain Morgan Long Island Iced Tea works with lemon, orange, cola spice, barbecue glaze, fried chicken, grilled burgers, salty chips, citrus slaw, spicy wings, caramelized onions, and sweet-smoky sauces.
The Jazz Chef angle: this is Captain Morgan doing Long Island shorthand, citrus, cola, sugar, and mixed-spirit warmth in a bottled party rhythm.
A DISTILLER’S TALE
Captain Morgan is a Diageo-owned brand named after Henry Morgan, the seventeenth-century Welsh privateer. The Long Island Iced Tea expression belongs to the brand’s ready-to-drink cocktail line, alongside products such as Mai Tai and Tropical Punch. It sits outside traditional rum classification because the product is a pre-mixed cocktail rather than a rum expression.
MY TAKE
Captain Morgan Long Island Iced Tea is straightforward, sweet, and built for convenience. Lemon, orange, cola, caramel, sugar, and light mixed-spirit heat all show up. It is not refined, and it does not carry much rum identity. As a bottled Long Island-style cocktail, it is understandable and functional. As a flavor product, it lands in the middle-low range because sweetness and convenience do most of the work.
