Dewar’s Double Double 27 Year opens with layered honey, dried apricot, and polished oak, moving into dark caramel, cocoa, toasted almond, and soft baking spice, then finishing long and poised with seasoned wood and a faint wisp of smoke; shaped by the four-stage Double Double process, including extended aging, careful blending, re-resting, and Oloroso sherry cask finishing, and built on mature Highland and Speyside malts anchored by Aberfeldy, it delivers depth and cohesion with a calm, deliberate richness that stays balanced and refined.
TASTING NOTES
Taste is more than flavor. It is the full conversation between glass, nose, mouth, and memory. Here, we break each spirit into four parts:
AROMA
Floral malt, citrus peel, syrupy fruit, rich honey, ripe apricot, fig, toasted almond, and polished oak.
PALATE
Creamy caramel, honeyed stone fruit, citrus peel, dried fig, toasted nuts, cinnamon, soft grain, and elegant sherry-cask spice.
FINISH
Long, silky, warm, and refined, with lingering honey, apricot, almond, citrus, spice, and graceful oak.
TEXTURE
Exceptionally smooth, polished, and mature, with a silky 46% ABV weight and a rounded sherry-cask richness.
Dewar’s Double Double 27 Year brings the Dewar’s house style into a more refined and expressive register. Honey, citrus, apricot, fig, caramel, toasted almond, cinnamon, sherry spice, and elegant oak create a mature, silky blended Scotch with more lift and finesse than the darker, richer 21 Year.
STRAIGHT TALK
Dewar’s Double Double 27 is the elegant older sibling in the Double Double line. The 21 Year leans into Oloroso richness. The 27 Year, with Palo Cortado casks, feels more lifted, aromatic, and refined. It is not a peat-driven Scotch. It is not a single-malt flex. It is blending as architecture: old stocks, careful marrying, sherry-cask detail, and a finish that favors polish over force.
THE MIX
For culinary-pairing context, Dewar’s Double Double 27 works with apricot, fig, orange peel, lemon zest, honey, caramel, toasted almond, walnut, cinnamon, clove, dark chocolate, black tea, coffee, aged cheese, roasted poultry, mushroom dishes, and lightly smoked salt.

A DISTILLER’S TALE
The Double Double range was developed under Dewar’s Master Blender Stephanie Macleod and extends the brand’s long-standing “marrying” tradition into a more elaborate four-stage aging process. Dewar’s describes the 27 Year as finished in Palo Cortado sherry casks, with ripe apricot, fig, toasted almond, citrus, honey, cinnamon, and silky oak shaping the finished whisky. The expression has also received Double Gold recognition at the International Spirits Challenge, according to Dewar’s official product page.
