Product Description
All parboiled (semi-cooked) rice is not created equal! I’ve tried a wide variety, from Uncle Ben’s, the most common, to smaller brands, and, without exception, Zatarain’s is a much better product for me because it has all of the body of a good long-grain, and the flavor that often gets lost in parboiled rice made from less selective grains of rice.
There’s also something in the way that rice is parboiled. It’s a pretty basic process, but control of time, as well as sourcing top crops, does make a difference, and here, on both counts, Zatarain’s differentiates itself.
The good and bad news: Bad is that Zatarain’s doesn’t promote much of this AMAZING, kick Uncle Ben’s sorry grains in the butt, product to supermarkets outside of Louisiana, Texas, Georgia and Florida, although I never understand why, since it caused me to aBendon that brand years ago. The GOOD News? You can get it on Amazon at a decent price for the 10 lb bag.
As Zat’s Extra Long stands a grain taller than the rest, with a lot of parboiled rice products out there, it earns my four diamond Choicestuff award.
